We are already in the era of 4K: it seems that the majority of new TVs, streaming services and devices support higher quality video format. De facto physical format of 4K is off to a slow start, however. BIO-X1000ES Sony is the first to support playback Ultra HD Blu-Ray and 4K with full support for HDR (though that Sony yet to specify, HDR10 or Dolby Vision standard is whether used or not.)
Along with the new 4K Blu-Ray discs, the UBP-X1000ES also supports CD, DVD and Blu-Ray content, as well as the ability to upscale older 1080p content to 4K.
It is important to note that X1000ES is part of the ES series from Sony, the top-of-the-line models of the company for custom A/V installations, so that Sony fans, looking for middle of the road (and probably cheaper) Ultra HD Blu-Ray player after PlayStation 4 Pro transmits the tool will probably want to look elsewhere. X1000ES is expected to ship in spring 2017.
