A number of governments have already nervous about the security implications of Pokémon Go, but Iran is taking that fear one step further: it just became the first country to ban Pokémon Go game completely. The Supreme Council of Virtual Spaces, would not say what prompted the decision besides “security concerns.”
This step is not shocking. In addition to concerns about the players wandering near military bases and other sensitive areas, it would not be surprising if Iran fears that Pokémon Go encourage large gatherings and thus to protest against the government.
Whatever the reasons for the ban shows just how the game is to draw attention to the location based on games – much to the annoyance of the Iranian people, who just want to join in the fun.
