Japanese Olympic Star Kohei Uchimura Receive $5,000 Bill playing Pokémon Go in Brazil

Japanese Olympic star has blamed Pokemon Go after being hit with 500,000 yen (about $5,000), bill n roaming charges from his carrier. Kohei Uchimura Artistic gymnast, who won gold at the 2012 Games in London and the current world champion said he downloaded the game only after arriving in Sao Paulo in preparation for Rio but quickly got hooked, though not satisfied with a flat rate for data roaming.

Uchimura “could not believe his eyes” when he saw the bill, according to Kyodo news agency, with fellow team Kenzo Shirai says: “He looked dead at the team meal on the day.” Roaming charges can rack up very quickly when you use your phone abroad, almost anything online.

The story has a happy ending, though – after Uchimura called his carrier to explain that he let off with a flat daily fee of about $30, which is enough to make it likely the desire he had just bought the Brazilian SIM card but you you know, not $5,000.
